President’s message

Dilani Minuka Jayasinghe
Allied Health Sciences Unit was established under the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo in year 2006 and for the first time in history of University of Colombo in Year 2011 first group of 27 graduates passed out from our alma mater with the degree of Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Physiotherapy.
Only best performers at the highly competitive advanced level examination are enlisted to our degree programme and nearly 300 graduates have passed out until today as qualified skilled physiotherapist from our department. It is proud to mention that our passed out graduates are not only engaging in government and Non-government institutes both in health and higher education sector also some of them have been hired by the recognized overseas hospitals and educational institutes worldwide.
As a past student of the first batch of B.Sc. (Honours) Physiotherapy course, I have been witnessing the hardship that the university and students have gone through in the initial stages and how our Allied health science unit has been upgraded to the Department of Allied Health Sciences with developed teaching and learning resources and infrastructure.
Colombo Physiotherapy Alumni Association (ColPAA) was established with the purpose of lending a helping hand to the department, students and each other when the need arises by giving financial support and the expertise knowledge and skills of the local and overseas employed past graduates.
I consider it is an honour and a privilege to be inducted as the president of the pre-committee of ColPAA and would not forget to mention the hardwork of my dedicating and enthusiastic committee members of ColPAA in embarking and engaging in this long process of establishing the Colombo Physiotherapy Alumni Association which has ultimately become a reality.
In addition to that, the support and the guidance given by the Dean of Faculty of Medicine and the Head of the Department of Allied Health Sciences should be appreciated gratefully throughout the process of establishing the Physiotherapy Alumni Association.
At last, I hope ColPAA will always stands for the Allied Health Sciences Department and its undergraduates and postgraduates by fulfilling the requirement and upgrading the standards of them that leads to the betterment of the physiotherapy profession in Sri Lanka.
